Peter Westerhouse - Early Years #2

There were two faiths in Prussia, Lutheran and Catholic.  Churches in Prussia were supported by the government and were required to follow its guidelines.

Peter's family, including his father's and grandparents family, on his father's side, attended the St. Martin Lutheran Church located in Spenge, Herford, Westphalia, Prussia. The church was originally built around 1470, burned to the ground in 1768 and had to be rebuilt.  It was much smaller then, but it has been expanded over time.

Peter's grandfather on his father's side was Johann Heinrich Korfhage, born 20 December 1762, in Lenzinghausen, Herford, Westphalia, Prussia. Peter's grandmother was Anne Ilsabein L├╝ersen, born 24 October 1767, in Spenge, Herford, Westphalia, Prussia. St. Martin Lutheran Church records confirm this information.

Peter's father was Johann Heinrich Korfhage, born 29 March 1800, on farm #18, in Lenzinghausen, Herford, Westphalia, Prussia. He was christened at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Spenge, Herford, Westphalia, Prussia, 6 April 1800.  St. Martin Lutheran Church records confirm this information.

Peter's father's siblings were: Anna Maria Elizabeth, born about 1793; Maria Ilsabein, born 18 December 1803; Johann Hermann, born 19 June 1810.  This information was found at Family Search, an online church index, and needs further verification with church records.
